"Touchstones" by Carrie Adell "My intention originally was to produce nature's patterns in pebble form, to be worn by the fingers, in the pocket - a "pocket rock". The surface patterns were to remind us of the story of the rock's origin's; Earth processes which formed us and from which we might learn proper "usage" of the Earth's resources. The metalsmithing techniques I continue to use are analogous to those of the Earth's formation too. Sedimental layerings, grinding, chipping, burnishing, and oxidizing are some of these processes. The pebbles themselves are actually hollow-formed married metal beads, two shells soldered together and pierced, with soldered in tubing, for mounting on a variety of specially designed pendant, earring and brooch findings." |
